Hard Water = Unhealthy hair

Image
Have you been washing, conditioning, and deep conditioning for a while now, but your hair hasn’t changed a bit?
Coarse Hair Diary Hard water might be to blame. Hard water has a high mineral and chlorine content. Hard water minerals primarily consist of calcium (Ca2+), and magnesium (Mg2+) metal cations, and sometimes other dissolved compounds such as bicarbonates and sulfates. According to the United States Geological Survey, 89.3% of US homes have hard water. Craziness! Having hard water can leave your hair dull, lifeless, and dry. The best way to tell if you have hard water is to simply look at your faucet. Lime residue — the icky clear stuff — is the primary sign of hard water.
Treating Hard Water: A water softener could be one way to solve your hard water issue. Why? Water softeners effectively reduce the concentration of hardness minerals to tolerable levels, thus making the water softer and “smoother.” You could also invest in a water filter. Water filters reduce the amount of mine…

Hair Breakage vs. Shedding

Image
There is a huge difference between hair breakage and hair shedding, and knowing the difference can really help your hair care in the long run. Just knowing the difference between the two is an important part of any healthy hair regimen. Seriously. Many people use these terms interchangeably to refer to any hair that falls from the head, but knowing exactly what it is helps! You could be buying the wrong products, trying to cure something that isn't the problem. This waste time, money, and can make the hair worse. Both are in fact a form of hair loss. The difference is, one can be perfectly fine when it's not severe. This is shedding! Shedding is a natural way of getting rid of old hair and will happen regardless. There isn't anyone in the world who has hair that does not shed! The amount is what should be kept in mind.

People who notice hair falling out, thinning, or appearing in large amounts on their comb or brush after many trys of treatment should consult a dermatologis…

TWA Business-Look!

Image
Alot of people do not believe that short natural hair also called a TWA can not be worn in a business atmosphere. Well I am here to show and tell you that, that way of thinking is totally incorrect! Here is one picture to show you that natural short hair can be worn and still look very professional. This style is at the point where is becoming that length where it isn't short and it isn't very long yet. This is where I am currently with my own hair, and I work it out! So to all of the women who are at this point in your natural hair process.
DO NOT GIVE UP! 1. Do a two strand twist before you rest at night.
2. Use Eco Styler Gel for the twist. (an all natural gel to hold your curl)
3. Wake up the next morning and take it down slightly.
4. Use a Moisturizer or Oil that works on your hair to take twists out.
5. Run it through each strand while taking it down, and you can have this exact look!
Enjoy your hair!

How to Grow Hair Faster Naturally

Image
Hair Care Products: The right hair care product can make your hair thicker and luxuriant. The shampoos and conditioners that you choose should be based on your hair type. Avoid the ones which have lots of chemicals and instead opt for all natural, herbal shampoos and conditioners. This will prevent dryness of the scalp, dandruff and even control hair fall. Natural, organic conditioners like coconut oil or olive oil can make hair grow faster naturally and do not have any side effects. A natural deep conditioning hair treatment can be made by mixing a cup of honey with half a cup of olive oil. Apply this mixture to your hair for thirty minutes and rinse off for healthy, long hair.

Head Massages: It is believed that stimulating and massaging the scalp is an effective way to naturally make the hair grow faster. A daily head massage for ten minutes improves the blood circulation in the scalp and increases the amount of blood that gets to the hair follicles. This not only strengthens the roo…

What is Henna Dye?

First of all, it can be used as a natural hair dye. It does not have chemicals in it and is great for dying the hair naturally. It is a plant.

The name is also used for dye preparations derived from the plant, and for the art of temporary tattooing based on those dyes. Natural Hair Myths!

No. 1 - Natural Hair is Dirty - NOT TRUE, In fact, we women with natural hair wash our hair more often than women who aren't natural, because we must detangle our hair, condition our hair, keep our hair nice, etc. Natural hair is very clean and healthy!

No. 2 - Natural hair is not Manageable - Natural hair is very manageable. It isn’t that natural hair isn’t manageable; it’s that people refuse to learn how to manage natural hair. If you keep up with it, and play attention to you lovely curls, it will show you love back. Wash it, Condition it often, and keep it well moisturized and your curls will flourish and make you proud! WATER/WATER/WATER is key!

No. 3 - You must grease the scalp - Sorry, but this is not true! You do not have to grease your scalp often at all. Most of the time, this is the factor in our hair not growing, because the chemicals in the grease we tend to use clog our pores/scalps. (Bad Ingrediants posted Below)Therefore, hair does not grow! Instead, use a natural oi…

I just got a little excited yall, Sorry! lol

A few Damage leading hairstyle examples

Slow Down Rihanna!

Image
I thought Mary J. Blige was the Queen of hairstyles, but it looks like she has been completely erased by no other than crazy pop star Rihanna with all of her hair changes. This girl has done over 10 hairstyle in one year. That's cool if you're natural because you're "hopefully" managing your hair properly, but with permed hair. This is a huge red flag (like her red hair)! You can't keep changing hair colors, and putting heavy glue/tracks or what ever to your hair like this girl. Beware if you're trying to keep up with her, because it's a sure thing that she may not even have much hair! Sorry. lol

Relaxed to Natural (Celebrity Style)

Image
Many Many Many folks are going towards healthy natural hair, due to hair breakage, a more chic/gorgeous/unique look with much versatility, or other personal reasons. Here is one newly famous natural and I personally think she is rocking this look out. Maybe her sister will join the team, just maybe huh?! lol

Hair of the Day!

Okay, YaYa was going to win the title again for the 3rd time, but I don't want folks to think I'm in love with her or something! lol  Her hair is amazing though. This time Corinne stole the title! BUT YaYa (America's Next Top Model) has a nice hair style I just had to show. She rocks her natural hair pulled back in a nice bun.

Fake the Natural Look

Image
I hear alot of women say, "I want to go natural, but I'm scared that I might not look good with it." Well, just fake the look. It's so easy now days with all the weaves available. Just remember not to pull your hair too tight like a crazy person, because that will do more damage than good.
Too much pulling on the scalp, such as tight micro braids, kinky twist, sew-ins, glue, etc. Can damage the scalp and hair follicles.

Faking the natural look is one of the best ways to see how you may look with the actual doo!

There is a down-side to every good thing though. For one, you do not know how your natural hair will be, unless you remember before the perming days. If not, that could be a problem. The good thing is that all textures are gorgeous! Every curl can be at its maximum potential if treated properly.
Proper treatments are in posts below.

Believe it! But if you're scared, fake the look until you decided to enjoy a healthy head of gorgeousness! lol

6 Product Rules for Black Hair

Image
Rule #1: Avoid Bad Hair Product Ingredients: Many commercially available hair care products denoted for African American or ethnic hair use harmful ingredients. Be certain to check the ingredients in your hair care products. The following ingredients are awful for ethnic or African American hair, not only stifling African American and Ethnic hair’s health, true texture, and hair growth, but also harmful to the body.
Rule #2: Avoid Hair Coloring, Rinses, and Dyes. Look on the pack of the ingredient label and check for FD&C Colors: Many individuals with African American or Ethnic hair experience scalp irritation due to these. If you have an irritated scalp, your hair will not grow long or remain healthy.

Rule #3: Avoid Hair Products with Synthetic Fragrances: Unless natural fragrance, created by items such as essential oils and seasonings, fragrances can include up to 4,000 additional ingredients, specifically more Propylene Glycol that is harmful and damaging to African American or…

BAD Ingrediants for BLACK Hair (Not only for Naturals either)

Here are just a few ingrediants that are harsh on hair textures. You might want to beware of these, because they can do damage to your delicate hair after long-term usage. I'm glad I found out about this early in my natural hair journey. This is not only for Black ppl, this is for all people. These same chemicals can be found in your household cleaning products. Such as, laundry detergent, AJAX, dish washing liquid, etc. I am not joking. Go look for yourself. Besides, Will you wash your hair with Dove shower gel? No...Right! So try to avoid these products!

1) Isopropyl Alcohol: Dries and Breaks African American or Ethnic hair. It is found in color rinses, anti-freeze

2) Mineral Oil/ Petrolatum: It used as a moisturizer in African American or Ethnic hair care products; however, it coats African American or Ethnic hair, actually preventing moisture from getting into the thirsty hair. It is a derivative of crude oil and a cheap industrial grease component. It also prevents the relea…
